Not only do we sell and service bikes, but we like to ride them too! We
are fortunate to have some great riding opportunites nearby and would
like to highlight some of them on this page.
Mountain Biking Vulture's Knob
Mountain bikers come from all over the state and beyond to ride at "the
Knob". Fortunately for us it is in our back yard, about a 25 minute
drive from the shop. The course is technical and challenging with lots
of climbing and steep descents.
To find the Knob look for the wooden vulture sign on the
west side of Mechanicsburg road. Here's an interactive Google map to help
with directions, the second marker is our shop:
Mohican State Park
A total of 33 miles of trail passes through the state park and Mohican
State Forest. The mountain biking at Mohican is less technical than that
at the Knob. The riding at Mohican is often described as "flowing" and
the scenery in the park and forest is natural Ohio at its best. The Mohican
State Park web page contains additional information, including a PDF
trail map. Here's a map to get you to the main campground at the state
park, the second marker (partially hidden by the map note) is our shop:
Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park Now here is a unique mountain biking destination:
ride your mountain bike indoors at Ray's. They have 97,000 square
feet of space inside an old warehouse. Visit their web
site for more information, and here is a map to get you there,
the second marker is our shop:
Road Cycling Wayne County Backroads
The low traffic and scenic backroads of Wayne County are perfect for road
cycling. There is a lot of rolling farm land to ride through, plenty of
hills to seek out, and nearly all the roads have surfaces that are appropriate
for road bikes.
If you would like to do a road ride that begins and ends at the
shop, check out the"Ride Maps" page
on the Orrville Cycling Club web site. There are many routes of
varying distances to choose from. Our directions page
shows you how to get to the shop.
Rails-to-Trails
The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has
been active and successful in our area in turning abandoned railroad corridors
into biking/walking trails. They have a list of trails in Ohio on their
web site: www.traillink.com
Rails to
Trails of Wayne County has been active in developing multipurpose
trails in our county. Information about trail developmen as well
as a newsletter is available on the RTWC web site.
Here
are a couple nearby trails to highlight:
Holmes County Trail
This asphalt paved trail travels from Fredericksburg to Killbuck, about
17 miles. The ride is flat and scenic, there is a tunnel to pass through
as well as bridges to cross. Stop for lunch or a snack at Skip's Depot,
about 6 miles from Fredericksburg. The trail ends near the WalMart in Millersburg.
Here's a map to Fredericksbrug Elementary school, which is just east of
the trail's beginning, the second marker is our shop:
Sippo Valley Trail
This trail begins at the well-kept Village Green Park in Dalton and travels
east about 10 miles to Massillon. The trail is mostly paved with a three
mile section of crushed stone in the middle that is in great condition
when
the weather is dry. In Massilon the trail intersects with the Ohio-Erie
Canal Towpath, allowing for longer rides. Here's a map to the beginning
of the trail in Dalton, the second marker is our shop:
