Upcoming Cycling Events for 2008
Welcome to 2008! It's the beginning of a new year and a good time to
look forward to another year of cycling and fitness. There are many
exciting cycling events in our area this year and we would like to
highlight some of these so you can put them on your calendar...
GOBA Comes to Orrville
One of the most exciting events for our area this year is the arrival
of GOBA, the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure, to
Orrville. Described as "an adventure on two wheels with 2,999 of
your closest friends" GOBA is a week long cycling trip that travels
a different route each year. Orrville will be an overnight stop this
year. Consider joining the adventure this year as it comes through
and camps in our town. GOBA takes place from June 14 to 21.
47th Annual Tour of the Scioto River Valley
The Tour of the Scioto River Valley will be held May
10 to 11. TOSRV starts
and finishes at the Ohio Statehouse grounds in Columbus. The route
to Portsmouth travels
along the Scioto River Valley and returns after an overnight in
Portsmouth via the same route. A half TOSRV route is also available
that starts and end in
Chilicothe.
Fredericksburg Library Roll - the hills return
The fourth Fredericksburg Library Roll will tour through Wayne and
Holmes County again this year. This ride has become very popular
in the past several years due to the beautiful scenary, the challenging
hills, and the fry pies at the finish. Fans of the rails-to-trails
system enjoy the shorter, flatter route that travels from Fredericksburg
to Millersburg and back. The ride usually takes place in September.
Orrville Cycling Club - weekly rides, road & cross racing
The men and women in red will be back at it this year. Club rides
take place on Wednesday nights during Daylight Savings Time. The
annual USCF sanctioned Milk Race happens in August and the Orrville
Cross series
will begin in October. Consider joining
the club if you are interested
in taking your cycling to the next level!
